GL events sells the management of the Barcelona International Convention Center
Fira de Barcelona and GL events signed an agreement that will see the former group take over the management of the Barcelona International Convention Center (BICC).
The BICC is currently managed by the French event company GL events and is owned by Barcelona City Hall. Fira de Barcelona is the fairs institute of the city of Barcelona and will take over the venue in 2021.
Fira de Barcelona will ensure a smooth transition in management and will continue to work with GL events after 2021 in the provision of supplies and services.
The agreement also provides for the possibility of continuing other international collaborations between Fira de Barcelona and GL events in Asia and Latin America.
Barcelona city council, owner of the CCIB, has entrusted its management to the Fira de Barcelona for a period of 25 years, from November 2021.
The CCIB, which has an area of more than 100,000 square meters, achieved a turnover of almost € 38 million in 2018 after having organized 119 different events. Since it began operations in 2004, it has hosted over 1,500 events of all kinds, including conventions, conventions, cultural events and concerts, with over 6.8 million attendees.
