Our client is a top-tier e-commerce solutions provider, developing and operating online retailing and direct response marketing businesses for retailers, branded manufacturers, media companies, and professional sports organizations. Their platform includes Website design and development, e-commerce technology, customer service, fulfillment, buying and merchandising, content development and management, online and database marketing, and product development. The Company is currently seeking a Web Technologies Software Engineering Manager who, based at the Company’s Barcelona offices, will be responsible for staffing, mentoring and deploying Java development resources including onshore and offshore Java/J2EE/Web Developers and Technical Team Leads. Responsibilities • Staffing, deployment, management and oversight of onshore and offshore Java/J2EE/Web development activities. • Recruiting skilled Java developers and providing leadership and mentoring to facilitate their continued growth. • Coordinating development activities between onshore and offshore development teams and integrating their deliverables for successful delivery. • Building detailed software development plans and tracking efforts against budget and planning to deliver on committed budget and dates. • Mitigating risk to projects by understanding resource and task dependencies and managing these risks accordingly. • Providing a point of resolution for issues escalated from the project team members. • Ensuring successful delivery of development projects from both a time and quality perspective. Resolving any issues that impact project success. • Managing simultaneous tasks across large and diversely-located multifunctional work groups. • Ensuring the quality and completeness of code and documentation deliverables from development teams • Collaborating with technology and business management peers to determine optimum release plan • Communication with internal & external customers, handling technical & business conversations Requirements • Seven years experience in managing software development activities and large-scale system vision/design. • Five years experience working in Java/J2EE architectures with heavily data-driven applications. • Experience managing successful offshore development teams. • Experience with high-volume transaction systems in Internet space. • Knowledge of software design at the architectural level. • Knowledge of software estimation methods. • Knowledge of software project management and risk management. • Knowledge of Unix environments, Unix Shell scripting and SQL. • Experience in collaborative teams using revision control systems such as CVS • Experience managing dynamic projects on tight schedules • Experience with Oracle 9i or higher, BEA Web Logic 8.0 or higher desired • Experience managing integrations with XML / SOAP technologies is desired • Experience developing in MVC / Apache Struts Web Application Framework is desired • Strong attention to detail, good communications skills, and a positive attitude • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field is desired • Availability to travel to the USA by 4-8 weeks at the beginning of the contract and 1-2 per year • Excellent English skills (or native) is a must • The ideal candidate should have great people skills, build relationships, promote teamwork, and have a solution oriented mindset
